Description: There are 4 base principles of blocking in Kukkiwon Taekwondo: Cheo-Makgi (Striking Blocks), Bada-Makgi (Absorbing/Shielding Blocks), Georeo-Makgi (Tripping/Posting Blocks), Geodeo-Makgi (Deflecting/Parrying Blocks). In this video I show 3 practical ways you can block punches to the face using the "Bada-Makgi" (태권도 받아 막기) blocking principle, which essentially means to shield or absorb the impact from an opponent's strike on your arms, legs, or in a place other than the opponent's intended target. These specific examples are optimal for when gloves aren't worn, or when smaller MMA-style gloves are worn. Again, these aren't the only way you can block punches to the face, these are just a few examples of the creative use of the Taekwondo Bada-Makki principle being applied for modern combat sports and practical self-defense. The guest coach in this video is Cyrus Washington. Expect more from him in the future!
